Mountain tapir (Tapirus pinchaque)
Photos by Annemarie Hasnain
In this unusual photo, the tapir's tongue is rippled like a washboard. I can't do that, can you? The next two photos are also of a mountain tapir at the L.A. Zoo, where this species has been kept since the late 1960s.
Please e-mail your photos and text if you would like to see them on this blog.

When I was visiting the Manu Biosphere in the peruvian Amazon I woke up at 4am to go and search for tapirs but all I could find were the foot prints. Never saw one of these is the wild... and would love to!
